These days we’re seeing more and more beautiful and unique modern cabin plans. My first cabin memories surround my godfather’s hunting cabin. If you are picturing your typical man lodge with metal bunks, metal plates, and these classic camping mugs, you would be exactly right. Between inhaling Nesquik chocolate milk powder and enjoying the peace you can only find in nature, I thought, “This. This is what cabin life is.” And, no offense to Uncle Kurt, BOY, WAS I WRONG!
Cabin life can be so much more than utilitarian vibes that remind you of District 13 in “The Hunger Games” or some outdated version of a Goldilocks visit gone wrong. Of course, I love the traditional cabin vibe. If you love that too, you can check out my article on how to build a small cabin you’ll love (plus 7 prefab options), if that’s your vibe too!
Now I am so excited to share with you some of the modern cabin plans that are now available, thanks to the power of the internet and the ingenuity of so many artisans. Whether you need the plan or want the whole kit and caboodle, this list will do everything from inspiring to knocking your flannel socks off.
The future is now! Modern cabin plans, here we come!
Jaw-Dropping Blueprint Modern Cabin Plans
1. The Lake House by Canadian Timber Frames
You read the picture right: this 2478-square-foot paradise showcases incredible architecture from the curb, and a luxurious home inside that is also perfect for hosting your family, friends, and a bachelorette weekend! I love this plan because it gives you that feeling of a spa retreat. So, if your idea of modern cabin living happily includes a loft that is nearly 1,000 square feet, you can make your own sacred space before reconnecting for hiking plans in the afternoon, The Lake House is your vibe. Follow this link to the Lake House.
2. The Alpine 2.2 from The Den Outdoors
For $400, you can grab the plans for this beauteous twist on log cabin living. The deck/porch offers extra space for grilling, entertaining, and enjoying the starlight. I have to say when it comes to lines. The Alpine 2.2 has got it going on. Check out The Alpine 2.2 here.
3. The Solo, The Duo, or the Trio from AvrameUSA
As you scroll down this list, you’ll find another shoutout to one of my favorite prefab kits I name-dropped in my Build a Small Cabin You’ll Love post. AvrameUSA is one of the hands-down, top-rated, high-quality prefab kits out there that shines because it is so customizable. If you check out their gorgeous Instagram, you’ll see how truly unique each cabin manages to look while drawing from the same three customizable plans.
My favorite feature in this pic requires you to look to the rafters for those gorgeous chocolatey wooden beams. Well done, Avrame. Check out the Solo, the Duo, or the Trio modern cabin plans here.
4. The Yosemite
Okay, this one is probably the “safest” choice regarding a modern cabin look. Still, the angled front is so eye-catching, and the interior is incredibly practical and usable! With 1500 square feet contained in these plans that only cost $95, this modern cabin plan includes all of the things your girl loves: convenience while maximizing space, which of course, includes loft life! Well done, Yosemite. You always inspire. Get “The Yosemite” here.
5. Three-Floor A Frame Plan with Windows
A is for A-Frame, and this three-story windowed beauty is one of the modern cabin plans I am most excited about! I think an A-Frame is a timeless cabin option for a reason: retro and futuristic, striking and comforting. I can’t get enough A-Frames in my life, so here are some A-Frames you might want to try on for size to see if these are the cabins you’ve been looking for.
Look at her. Gorgeous, sleek, and filled with light. One thing Californians get right has as many windows as possible. Immediately you are drawn into all of the light and space. This modern cabin plan boasts 1400 square feet, including a master bedroom, two additional bedrooms, and a loft. Check out the plan for only $125 and get to work, cabineers!
6. The Mountaineer from Q Cabin Kits
I fell in love with Q Cabin Kits options when I wrote my article on the Build a Small Cabin You’ll Love. Q Cabin Kits looks pricey, but when you look at what the modern cabin plans include, plus the fact that you aren’t dealing with the headache of the build, it can be hugely worth it! An environmentally conscious company, all of Q Cabin Kit’s options are chic and sure to energize you and put you in retreat mode.
Pictured above is the Mountaineer. Domes and angles have me in heaven! Discover more about Q Cabin Kits here and find the right size (the Rebounder is a smaller version of the Mountaineer) for your lifestyle while having your heart on an earth-friendly hideaway.
7. The Industrial Finish
Wowing at nearly 2,000 square feet, this look is for the modern doomsday planner. Incorporating cement’s strength with soft wood finishes, this cabin is for whoever is looking for an edgy, functional, and impenetrable fortress of solitude. These specs will cost you about $1200. If the world is ending, money is immaterial, right? By doing more research here, figure out if this fortress’ modern cabin plans are right for you.
8. Santa Rosa from TimberBlock Modern Cabin Plan
TimberBlock is a site I can get lost in. The best kind of rabbit hole for your design needs, surf this site’s seemingly endless customizations and combos, and you will be left fully satisfied.
I selected the Santa Rosa because, at 1,142 square feet, this little cabin getaway offers a lot of something I am always looking for: a simple classic with a twist. The lines are engaging, the materials vibrant – including those stand-out columns forming a yowza component to coming home – and the accessibility of the bungalow style means every member of the family can enjoy a getaway. Find out more about the Santa Rosa here and enjoy browsing Timber Block Homes here.
Let’s Talk Outstanding Features for Modern Cabin Plans:
9. A-Frame with Porch
It is such a simple touch but game-changing! This modern cabin plan includes a front porch and rear porch, adding to the 1599 square footage you get with this plan. Sure, if you are handy, you can add a porch when you feel like it. But in the spirit of measure twice, cut once, why not go for this modern cabin plan?
10. Incorporate Bunk Beds with these Modern Cabin Plans
For $350, these modern cabin plans include some elegant shelving for your bunk beds while also making excellent and sleek use of lines in every room of the house. Effortlessly keeping you on edge… of your cabin… Enjoy the mix of cozy and chic with high-end finishes listed by following the link here.
11. The Retreat from The Den Outdoors
I’ll be honest – I am only here for this spiral staircase in this cabin. I find it such an inspiring and surprising touch that we often overlook, but if you have the gift to be building from scratch, why not look for modern cabin plans that have not only functional but also fabulous stairs?
Honorable Mention Modern Cabin Plan:
12. The Garage from The Den Outdoors
Okay, you can tell how much I adore The Den’s website and its quality. I never even thought about building my garage for my cabin, but then I checked out these gorgeous pictures and couldn’t help thinking: this is the way to go! Yes, I am still building it myself, but look at how much sleeker it is than throwing up the walls and buying boring shelving when the storage options in the structure are all there from the build! I love the built-in shelving trend and am happily climbing in shotgun for this one! Get your own Garage.
