About The Recipe
This recipe for apple cider sangria is simple and quick to make. It’s ready in about 5 minutes but should be refrigerated for an hour prior to serving.
The best part of this recipe is the fresh apple and orange slices that are added — they give this recipe an added fruity taste that pairs perfectly with the wine and fall spices!
Apple Cider Sangria Ingredients:
The full recipe is at the bottom of this page, but here’s a quick look at what you’ll need to make this recipe:
- 3 cups apple cider
- 1 cup sparkling water
- 1 cup ginger beer
- 1 bottle Pinot Grigio
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 cloves
- 2 honey crisp apples, sliced
- 1 orange, sliced
Popular Additions & Substitutions:
Orange juice: if you like fruity drinks, this recipe is tasty with an added 1/2 cup of orange juice.
Brandy: take this drink up a notch by adding a shot of brandy (you can add this in addition to the wine)
Spices: if you don’t have one of the spices on hand (cinnamon/cloves/star anise), you can leave them out and this recipe is still tasty! The apple cider base will give it plenty of flavor.
Wine: we’ve only ever made this recipe with Pinot Grigio but you could try Chardonnay for a similar flavor or Riesling for a sweeter option.
Apples: we like to use honey crisp apples because they’re sweet, but you could swap these out for any red apples.
Tips for Making Apple Cider Sangria
Chill it for an hour: don’t forget to chill your sangria for at least an hour prior to serving. This allows it to reach a chilled temperature and for the flavors to mix together.
Double it for a large crowd: if you’re making this for a party it’s an easy recipe to double. The original recipe serves 5 – 7 glasses of sangria. Likewise, if you need less you can halve the recipe.
Store it in the fridge: if you have leftover sangria, you can store it in the fridge in an airtight container (like a mason jar) for about 3 days. Keep an eye on the fruit and if it starts to brown before then remove it (and keep the rest of the sangria.
