Additions & Substitutions
Red pepper flakes: If you’d like to add some spice to your soup, add ¼ tsp of red pepper flakes as you boil your soup. This will give it some tasty, spicy heat.
Double the recipe: This recipe makes two large bowls of soup. If you’d like more, simply double the ingredients for 4 bowls or to have leftovers.
What to serve it with: Some popular toppings for this soup include sour cream, cheese, avocado and parsley or cilantro. It’s also delicious served with tortilla chips.
Tips for Making The Recipe:
- Tip: When you pour your soup into your blender, pulse it a few times before fully pureeing it.
- Tip: If you like some chunks in your black bean soup, you don’t have to blend it completely. This soup is still tasty with a few chunks. Or you can skip the blender completely for whole black beans in your soup.
- Tip: If you find that your soup is too thick, add a splash of chicken or vegetable broth. The consistency of this soup is a thick puree, but if you’d prefer it thinner the broth will work well. If you find that your soup is too thin, add more black beans.
